When Creativity Gets Nauseating and Why I love sticking to being traditional
Sorry Kolkatans, I am here to spoil your party though I am pretty sure you are beyond my ramblings and risen high above to not care. I am also pretty sure that you have discarded the traditional values, ceremonies and rituals and Durga Puja has been reduced to a mere fest. Durga Puja, for you, is all about food, showing off your Sarees and jewellery, and of course for the most progressive of you, beef balls!
So when I saw these pictures of the Vatican styled pandals I wasn’t surprised! After all, Durga Puja in Kolkata was inscribed in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and this sure is a way to preserve the unique culture?

Honestly speaking, the degeneration of traditions is happening across everywhere but Kolkata, the land of know-alls interests me most!
Forget about being laughing stocks for the rest of the world, you have no idea that you are on a downward spiral and finishing all that was old and glorious.
Reminds me of a two year old post I wrote on the same subject where Maa Durga was robbed off all her finery just for the sake of earning some brownie ‘creative’ points.
Nothing has changed, in fact it’s getting worse every year.
Here’s a link to my old scribbling if you are interested!!!
I am not against creativity but sure there are ways to showcase one’s creativity at the right place and for the right reasons. This is no time to play with the ‘divine’.
I love to see Maa in all her glory, bright, beautiful, strong, radiating; in a Saree pink or red; jewellery adorning her from head to foot; and compassion flowing from her eyes!!!
