The battles of financial inheritance

The first picture that surfaced on social media where Captain Anshuman Singh’s Kirti Chakra was received by the mother and his wife sent chills down everyone’s bones looking at the young face who lost her support for life.

However what followed was not pleasant — the financial matters between the wife and the family that has turned into a national debate needs to be looked from different angles. The NOK rules need to be “revisited” per the parents of Captain Anshuman and social media seems to have divergent opinions on the same — many supporting the wife and many the parents. Different shades of many similar stories are also surfacing and these days when women have advantage in judicial matters, many take undue advantage too.

It is indeed a deadlock kind of situation when both the parties are entitled to receive the financial compensation. Somewhere rules need to be flexible and have scope for looking into finer details of both the parties involved — whether both the parties have any other source of income, or are solely dependent on this compensation for their survival.

This should have never gone to the media, the matter should have been resolved within the family with each party understanding the need of the other. It is not clear whether the bonds between the parents and the daughter in law had any time to grow given that in today’s time it takes more time to bond than what it was say 30 years back.

The daughter-in-law deserves to have a life where she finds love and support again but all these could still happen with the support of the parents.

The society today has become materialistic, it is not wrong for the wife to seek financial assistance but it would all be amicably done had both the sides some understanding among themselves.
