Reminiscences of November

November brings in memories in a very strange way; the advent of winter, memories of frost laden grass, sunshine afternoons, grey evenings and cold nights…

Somewhere in the corner of the mind, there is a wish that will never be fulfilled…to get back to childhood… and wait for the winter school holidays, to run along the streets, hide behind the bushes, pluck those marigolds or idle in the warm afternoon sun for hours…

One remembers with nostalgia the long chats with friends, dipped in sweet orangy flavors, the tea sessions that extended for hours or those walks taking us nowhere, discussions and some fun over practically nothing. Those topics of discussion are long forgotten but what stays fresh in mind is the winter warmth.

Not to be forgotten are those winter pamperings from parents in the form of new books to read, new crafts to make or those constant demands to mum to bring me new threads, wool balls, knitting needles as the holidays also meant new learnings, picking a new hobby or learning to knit.

And when all these were gone, and life got us to serious business, there would still be some evenings spent at home and asking mum for a cup of tea or her asking us if we wanted one.

Sitting at home in 2020 and working from home since the last six months, it’s only a wish that she was around so she felt us around, at home and not longing for us to get back home. It would mean daily session of evening teas and not just random weekends.

Lazing and wanting that cup of tea that I could cajole her to make one for me…but its been four Novembers already since that cup of our tea.
